The Mizar Duo uses a unique combination of instruments which allows audiences to explore a colourful sound palette in a programme of works that draw from both the familiar and unusual. The group derive their name from the first double star system that was discovered with the naked eye by an assistant of Galileo’s in the 16th century. The gravitational forces at play are, to them, reminiscent of the musical collaboration and trust required for truly inspiring chamber music. Their programme includes Bach’s Partita in A-minor for solo flute, Klatzow’s Figures in a Landscape, Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango, Abe’s Wind Sketch for solo marimba and Sicilienne by Von Paradis. The recital is followed by a free 45-minute music discussion with artists upstairs in the Banqueting Hall.
